How to Choose the Right Blade – Core Selection Principles

Principle 1: Match Bond Hardness to Cutting Material (The Most Critical Decision!)

This is the single most important factor in blade selection. The bond is the metal matrix that holds diamond particles. Its hardness determines how quickly diamond grit is released.

The Golden Rule – Reverse Matching:

Hard Material → Soft Bond: When cutting hard, dense materials (like granite, reinforced concrete, or hard stone), you need a soft bond. The soft bond wears faster, continuously releasing fresh, sharp diamond particles to maintain cutting efficiency.

Soft Material → Hard Bond: When cutting soft, highly abrasive materials (like asphalt, green concrete, or limestone), you need a hard bond. The hard bond resists wear, preventing premature diamond loss and extending blade life.

Easy Memory Rule: "Hard to Soft, Soft to Hard."

If you get it backwards-using a hard bond on hard material-the blade will glaze (polish instead of cut). Using a soft bond on soft material will cause rapid, excessive wear.

Principle 2: Match RPM to Equipment

The blade's maximum RPM rating must be higher than your saw's maximum operating speed. Exceeding the rated speed can cause segment fracture and serious safety hazards. Additionally, blade diameter must match your machine-larger diameter means deeper cutting capacity.

Principle 3: Choose Diameter Based on Cutting Depth

Cutting depth depends on blade diameter and saw configuration. For deeper cuts, choose a larger diameter blade. Always ensure the blade's arbor hole matches your machine's shaft size.
