The Cast Iron Diamond Grinding Wheel is a specialized diamond abrasive tool developed specifically for gray cast iron, ductile iron, and cast steel. Cast iron grinding is one of the most challenging applications in metalworking – cast iron contains 2-4% free graphite, which acts as both a lubricant and a clogging agent. Ordinary grinding wheels clog up after a few passes and lose their cutting ability.

Why is cast iron hard to grind?

Cast iron contains large amounts of free graphite. During grinding, graphite flakes break free and clog the wheel pores, making the surface smooth and polished – losing cutting ability. Cast iron also has low thermal conductivity, meaning heat concentrates at the grinding interface, causing burn marks, micro-cracks, and inconsistent surface finishes. Conventional resin wheels soften under high temperatures, accelerating wear.

Conventional resin‑bonded wheels have dense, closed pore structures that trap graphite easily.
