The Terrco Grinding Plate is a metal bond diamond grinding tool specifically designed for Terrco series floor grinders (including Terrco 701-S, 3100-SPV, and other models). It uses a sintered metal bond to lock high‑concentration industrial diamonds into the segments, which grind concrete floors efficiently through the rotating heads of the floor grinder.

What does the Terrco Grinding Plate do?

Simply put, it's the "dedicated shoe" for Terrco floor grinders. In a complete floor grinding workflow, the Terrco Grinding Plate handles the heavy lifting – coarse leveling, coating removal, and opening the concrete surface.

What makes Terrco Grinding Plates unique:

Columnar segment design: The most distinctive feature of Terrco grinding plates – 1 large columnar segment with 4 rectangular grooves. The grooves create chip evacuation channels during rotation – dust and slurry are continuously expelled, preventing clogging.

Multiple segment shapes available: Beyond columnar, options include trapezoid segments (8‑10 pieces), bar‑shaped segments (3‑6 pieces), arrow segments, and more.

Tapered plug design: 50mm tapered plug – easy to install and remove.

Q2: What's the advantage of the columnar segment with grooves?

The columnar segment is the most distinctive feature of Terrco plates. Each plate has one large columnar diamond segment with 4 rectangular grooves.

These grooves do three things:

① Chip evacuation – Dust and slurry are continuously expelled through the grooves, so the segment doesn't clog. No clogging = no slipping = consistent grinding efficiency.

② Heat dissipation – The grooves allow air circulation, reducing friction heat and extending segment life.

③ More uniform scratch pattern – The groove structure leaves a more even grinding pattern on the floor, which means less finish work later.

So when a customer asks "why columnar?" – these are the three points to hit.

Q3: What materials can Terrco plates grind? Can they be used dry?

Materials: New or old concrete (all strengths), terrazzo, natural stone (granite, marble), masonry.

Works both dry and wet. For dry grinding, you must use a vacuum (OSHA silica dust limits are strict). Wet grinding uses water – no dust, longer life.

Recommendations for customers:

Large indoor areas → dry + vacuum

Dust‑sensitive environments (hospitals, schools) → wet

Long continuous runs → wet (longer life)

Outdoor, no water → dry

Q4: Can Terrco plates remove epoxy and old coatings?

Yes. And that's one of their main uses.

For stripping epoxy, paint, adhesives, VCT mastic, or thin‑set, use coarse grit (16#–30#) + metal bond Terrco plates. The coarse columnar or arrow segments "chew" through coatings efficiently.

For extra‑thick or sticky coatings (like elastic coatings), we recommend PCD Terrco plates. PCD doesn't "grind" – it "scrapes" coatings off like a blade, much faster.

The standard workflow: PCD first to remove thick coatings, then metal bond diamond segments to clean up any thin coating left behind. We offer both – just tell us what you need.

Q5: How do I choose bond hardness? How do the six grades match up?

This is the most common and most misunderstood question. The rule is simple: hard floor = soft bond; soft floor = hard bond.

Terrco plates come in six bond hardness grades:

If a customer asks "why soft bond for hard concrete?" – Hard concrete doesn't wear the bond easily. If the bond is too hard, dull diamonds can't shed and the plate glazes – it stops cutting. Soft bond wears faster, keeping diamonds exposed and sharp.

If they ask "why hard bond for soft concrete?" – Soft concrete is abrasive and wears down the bond quickly. A soft bond would wear out too fast – hard bond gives you reasonable life.

Q6: How do I choose grit? What's the difference between 6#, 16#, 30#, 60#, and 120#?

Terrco plates cover a full grit range from 6# to 400# – from coarse grinding to pre‑polish preparation.

The workflow must be step‑by‑step – don't skip grits: 16#–30# (coarse) → 60#–80# (medium) → 120#–150# (fine) → 200#–400# (ultra‑fine). Skipping leaves deep scratches that are hard to remove later.
